2009 Events Start Out Strong This month, our spring and summer events get underway, Operation Frontline continues to expand, there are creative new ways to get involved, and we share a volunteer’s story and a ‘thank you’ from a grateful grant recipient.
Taste of the Nation Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® opens its 2009 season March 30 in D.C. where Chef Chair RJ Cooper (at right) leads the event and makes the first of numerous appearances by members of the 2009 Taste of the Nation Culinary Council. Bake Sale season is March 1 through July 21. Sign up today.
Operation Frontline Share Our Strength’s Operation Frontline®, nationally sponsored by the ConAgra Foods® Foundation, will launch a nutrition education program in Georgia with classes for 6th, 7th and 8th graders and their parents at The Salvation Army’s Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center of Atlanta. Local partner Georgia Coalition for Physical Activity and Nutrition will begin classes next month.
Grants at Work Kids Avenue Learning Center, a child care center in Faribault, Minn., sent us this note after learning they’d receive a Share Our Strength grant this year. The Center is expanding its summer and after-school meal programs to meet the growing needs of low-income families. They will use the grant to buy food and equipment. “I am overjoyed yet brought to tears at your news,” says Kids Avenue board member Natalie Ginter. “The funding from Share Our Strength is coming at a critical moment. All I can say is ‘thank you’ from the bottom of my heart and from the 100+ children we care for every day!”
